Avoiding many of the problems with conventional tests that are becoming out-of-dated and flawed, nanoindentation overcomes the limitations of other methods. The most advanced technology for mechanical property testing, nanoindentation only affects a small volume of material so it is virtually a non-destructive test.

The algorithms in nanoindentation methods consider the underlying substrate in hardness testing of films as thin as 10nm that microhardness tests cannot accurately measure. Through careful selection of indenter tips, method selection and test type, reliable mechanical property data is achieved. The computer-controlled methods selected eliminate operator influence and bias for the depth and shape of the imprint guaranteeing reliable data.
